Axel Chair pays homage to the golden era of Swedish furniture design in the 1920s – a time when traditional folk influences were reimagined through neoclassical ideals. With nods to the work of Carl Malmsten and Axel Einar Hjort, and echoes of international modernists like Charlotte Perriand, Axel embraces a lineage once considered austere, now celebrated for its clarity and integrity.

Sami Kallio – widely regarded as the master of modern chair design in Sweden – brings his signature balance of tradition and innovation to the piece. Built by Sweden’s most skilled craftspeople using the finest materials, Axel continues the legacy of Swedish craftsmanship and ensures that quality and tradition live on.

Crafted entirely from solid oak, Axel’s construction is honest and expressive. Every joint and curve is exposed – a deliberate design choice that highlights its architectural structure. The soft flow of the armrests, combined with the upholstered seat and backrest, lends a comfort rarely found in the historical typologies it references.

Material

Solid Oak, Sheepskin Moonlight.

Crafted entirely from solid oak by skilled craftsmen. Oak, known for its strength, durability, and rich character, offers both visual warmth and structural integrity. Every joint and curve is exposed – a deliberate design choice that highlights its architectural structure and shows the strength of the material. The seat and back are upholstered in sheepskin Moonlight. A curly sheepskin specially developed for furniture upholstery, with a good density that makes it durable and wonderfully soft.
